Embossing Magic for The Card Concept

When I saw the color combination and fall theme at The Card Concept, I went straight for my bag of paper that I've put aside for one of my favorite techniques that I discovered by accident.  It's also something I've not been able to recreate.

The magic happened one day when I decided to heat emboss some pattern paper squares to add some interest.  In doing so, the reverse side of the paper was bleeding through, and I thought, "Oh, this is a disaster."  But the more I gazed at the squares, I fell in love with them.  I made a card or two, and then tucked the bag aside.  I pulled it out for the challenge.

I call this Clean and Layered.  I was once told that I was "so linear", and while I don't mind being linear, it wasn't said in the best tone.  I'm not sure if that was a compliment.

One coat of embossing ink and clear powder was splotchy.  The more layers, the better the effect.  The way the stripes on the reverse side of the paper come through, it truly felt magical.

I've been in search of a paper that could give a similar effect - coming up blank so far.  Hence my bag of scraps that I keep to the side.  It's a reminder to keep searching.

I hope you discover a happy accident in crafting today!

Debbie

A Fall Thank You

I created this fall themed thank you card, inspired by the colors from the current challenge at The Card Concept.

I went for a clean and layered look.  I used pattern paper and used the colors to guide my stamping.  I coordinated my ink, embossing powder and sequins to match.

I do love that shiny sentiment.

I hope you find some time to create.

Adding Some Ribbon for Cupcake Inspiration

Quite simply, I must stop taking breaks from the challenges that inspire me, because I love playing along! So I'm back with a card inspired by Cupcake Inspirations.  The challenge prompt . . .

I added ribbon to my next creation.

I attempted to "underscore" my sentiment.

Ribbon has gotten less use in my craft room, so it was great to dig through my stash.  The inspiration is appreciated!

I hope you find some time to create today.

Peace and Love

When I saw the challenge photo at Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge, I immediately thought of the Let the Good Times Roll set in my stash.  Barely used!  I brought out some colors and got busy.

And where would this card be without some Liquid Glass?  Hard to see in the photo, but the windows and headlights needed some serious glass!

I would drive this, for sure! I hope it's not too retro looking.

Gettin' Sketchy for Just Add Ink

I had uncovered some stamps, dies and stencil from The Stamp Market, and along with it was scraps of cardstock left over from one of the classes from Crop & Create Delivered.

Then bring in the sketch from Just Add Ink.

Admittedly, in the end, I realized I didn't use a lot of ink.  I do love how the colors come through those letters in the heart sentiment.

Who doesn't love a good sketch. I hope you can find some time to get sketchy!

It's All Black and White

Continuing my use of items in my stash, and decided to create a little something in black and white.  This card was inspired by CAS on Friday's challenge prompt of "leaves".

I really love this set from The Stamp Market.  It has the main leaf stamp set, and then a separate stamp for the veins of the leaves. I also stacked my sentiment which provides a cleaner look than foam tape.

I stamped and die cut multiple times.  I love the simplistic look of the black and white.

I hope you find some time to raid your stash.

Flip-it Card for TGIF

Today's card uses more discovered supplies from flipping my craft space and it also inspired by the challenge at TGIF

I used an oldkit from The Stamps of Life - December 2018 kit to be exact.  They just don't expire, do they!  And so a flip-it, with a shaker is born . . .

A rather small shaker . . .

That flip-it element . . .

And that gumdrop-like heart.

And I barely put a dent in the box.

Find some time to create!

Color Inspired Summer Card

Goodness, has it really been three months since my last post? Indeed it has, because life happens and the craft room has been flipped upside down and relocated.

But it's time to cut and paste again.  With flipping all the stuff around, I found lots of old treasures.  Today's card was inspired by Color Throwdown

I went to my stash of partially used kits for this one.  The good part about flipping your craft room is you find some of the paper packs you loved.  That was certainly case with this paper.

The combo of the three colors brought in some blends of others, but those three colors were my focus.  I used the paper as the focal point and just had to find a stamp set that matched the theme.  With summer nearly here, it made sense to have a summer greeting card to say, "Hey!".

So happy to be back and creating again.  The craft room is still in disarray, but not enough to keep me from creating.

Cheers.

You Quack Me Up

The last of my creative challenge cards for a while, as I'm heading into a busy time with work, crafty classes and life in general.  This last one is for the Inky Paws Challenge.

The rain boots in the inspiration photo sent me into my crafty closet to find one of my favorite stamp sets.

I just love this set.  I stamped it on watercolor paper and then die cut and colored with some watercolor pencils.  I combined it with a background created with watercolor and then cut with a mini cover plate die.  Of course, I saved some pieces and will have another creation down the road.

So many saved pieces, so little time.

Adore this set and that adorable little kitty and duck.

Smart As Can Bee

The cupcake prompt at Cupcake Inspirations looked wicked yummy, so I had to play along.

I pulled out an old kit that I remembered was bee themed.  I still had lots of product left to play with.

I adore that little bee with his cute little glasses. I used some Nuvo Drops to put some lenses in those glasses.  I mean, he needs to see to be able to fly!

May All Your Wishes Come True

I had so much fun creating this card for the Lawn Fawnatics Challenge.  A rainbow of colors and some critters to celebrate a holiday.

My favorite part of this card is that sentiment.  The letters and confetti make me think of gum drops!

I had stamped the sentiment for this card many months ago.  So I grabbed it and started adding color.  Something was missing, so after blending some color on, I darkened the inside of the letters and candles with darker Copics that complimented the colors.  Glitter was the finishing touch.

I brought in some fun critters, matched my balloon to the rainbow of colors, and done!

 Go make a rainbow!

It's Nearly Spring - But Fall is in the Air

Just Choose Two for Just Add Ink challenge!   Blending, embossing and white were the choices.  I went with embossing and white for my card.

And yes, I have my seasons wrong.  But I have a back-up of fall stamps on my desk just waiting for me to play.  And this fall stamp was on my list.  Hard to see the shine of the embossing . . . so a bit of tilt in the right light . . .

Adding to my fall stash!  I hope you find some time to create today.

Let's Eat Cake

Mmmmm  . . . cake!  Inspired by the colors at The Paper Players, I created this card.  Admittedly, I have two hues of blues that combined might be the color depicted in the challenge.

I got this set from Concord & 9thand just love the interactive element.

Pulling reveals chocolate cake . . . and three layers!

Such a fun card to create.

Go create something fun!

Taking the Positive with the Negative - Take 7

Usually my positive and negative pieces become separated from each other, but I decided to play out a creation of positive and negative pieces.  I love the outcome on this one. Nothing like a rainbow of color.

So which came first?  My card for Just Us Girls or CAS on FridayJust Us Girls had a word prompt of "Rainbow".  CAS on Friday had the prompt of "Friendship".  So it started with a rainbow of colors and a "Friend" die.  And I went first to create my card for Just Us Girls, taking that rainbow prompt rather seriously.

I used temporary adhesive and put the "friend" letters down.  I then did some ink blending over the images to create my rainbow of colors.  I then removed the letters and put them aside for my second card.  I stamped my sentiment in black over the word friend, and then used my color palette to stamp some stars around my sentiment.  I used a blender pen to color my images and match them to the ink blending.

A few sequins and I was done.

Moving to my CAS Card, I had cut the die earlier and was ready to piece my friend letters back into my white background.

I suppose a shaker card isn't completely CAS, but I left a lot of white space!  I used some gray striped pattern paper, took the frame from my original die and put it on my card base centered on the pattern paper.  I popped my colored letters back in, and then created a shaker window from the frame which was part of the same die that cut the letters.

A little acetate, foam strips and clay pieces and done.

I love that the letters have some darkness around their edges.  It makes them pop, even though they are flat to the card.

Another positive/negative creative session in the books.

Want some fun?  Create a rainbow!

Flowers Everywhere for SOS

The Shopping Our Stash Weekly Challenge prompt was "Flowers, Flowers Everywhere".

I created my background using a coordinating stencil and stamp from Hero Arts.

Rather than use the full panel for this card, I decided to add some interest by breaking the card into quadrants and having a black panel.  I think it helped to really "pop" the design.

This is a beautiful set and while I bought it as a kit, I've heard recently that the individual stamps, dies and stencil are available now.

Don't miss your opportunities for creativity.

Cheers!

Holiday Diagonal Easel

Well, craftio!  That's the crafty version of "Cheerio"!

I saw the sketch at Christmas Card Throwdown and said, this is your chance to finally attempt that diagonal easel card!  I followed the sketch as best I could given my easel element.

Went with lots of kraft cardstock, and even my pine cones are stamped on kraft.

And my pine cones serve as my easel stand.  Is that the proper term.

I don't know that it fully meets the sketch.  I did have fun,and I don't dislike any of this.  Kraft is good.
